Horizon Prevent
Genetic prevention that gives you time to act.
Health prevention is at its most valuable when it can flag a risk at a time when a person feels no symptoms at all.

What Horizon Prevent is
Horizon Prevent is a preventive genetic programme by Horizon Genetic, built on AveGene technology. It works with the analysis of circulating tumour DNA (ctDNA) — fragments of genetic information that tumour cells release into the blood among the broader pool of cell-free DNA (ct/cfDNA). It is in these fragments that the analysis looks for genomic alterations associated with cancer.
The programme combines standardised laboratory processing with variant assessment based on internationally recognised classification frameworks, making it possible to obtain further information that may serve as a basis for a consultation with a doctor.
The aim is not to replace the care you already receive. The aim is to add one more source of information at a time when there is still room to decide calmly.
Two panels
You choose the scope that makes sense for you
AveGene offers several screening panels. The two most commonly chosen differ in the breadth of genomic coverage — not in how the sample is processed, which is identical for both.
AveGene Colorectal & Lung Cancer Screening Micro Panel
Focused coverage of 18 oncogenes associated with lung and colorectal malignancies.
Chosen when the reason is a specific concern or family history relating to these two diseases.
AveGene Complex Genetic Cancer-Screening Test
Broad coverage of 55 oncogenes and more than 126 oncogenic parameters across multiple malignancies.
Chosen when it makes sense to cover the widest possible scope in a single sample.
Which panel suits your situation is something we go through at the consultation. The decision always remains with you and your doctor.
The process
How the programme works
- 1
Choosing a panel
At a no-obligation consultation we go through your situation together and you choose one of the two panels. You will learn what the panel covers, what you can expect from it and what it does not address.
- 2
Blood sample
A small amount of blood is taken in a simple procedure. The sample is taken by medical staff at an agreed collection point and takes only a few minutes.
- 3
Laboratory analysis
The sample is labelled, transported under defined conditions and analysed using AveGene technology. Laboratory processing, sequencing and bioinformatic evaluation follow standardised procedures with predefined quality-control criteria, within a quality management framework accredited to ISO 15189.
- 4
Evaluation of results
Variants are assessed against internationally recognised classification frameworks and curated genomic databases rather than by subjective judgement. The outcome is a structured report explaining what the findings mean and what cannot be concluded from them.
- 5
Further recommendations
Together with a doctor, you can decide on any further steps. The results are a basis for a conversation with a specialist, not a final verdict.
What the programme offers
Why people choose Horizon Prevent
A single blood sample
A non-invasive draw of a small amount of venous blood. No procedure, no special preparation, no recovery time.
Not limited to one organ
Unlike mammography or colonoscopy, ctDNA analysis is not tied to a single part of the body. From one sample it can provide information relating to malignancies arising in different tissues.
Accredited laboratory
Samples are processed within a quality management framework accredited to ISO 15189.
Standardised procedure
Sequencing, bioinformatics and variant assessment all follow predefined procedures. The result therefore does not depend on who processed the sample.
Suitable for repeating
Because it involves only a blood sample and the procedure is always the same, screening can be repeated at intervals and the results compared over time.
A structured report
You receive the results as a structured report written up so that they make sense without a medical background.
Continuity with your doctor
The report is prepared so that your doctor can work with it when deciding on any further steps.
Data protection
We process personal and health data in line with the GDPR and with legislation on health services.
Support at every step
From your first question through to the handover of results, our team is available to you. Clearly, patiently, in your own language.
What Horizon Prevent is not
For the programme to make sense, it is just as important to know where its limits lie. We therefore state openly what it cannot be expected to do.
- It is not a diagnostic examination and it does not establish a diagnosis.
- A positive finding does not mean disease. It is a molecular signal that may warrant targeted evaluation using established diagnostic methods.
- It does not replace a medical examination or the care of your treating physician.
- It does not replace recommended screening programmes or preventive check-ups — it complements them.
- A negative result does not rule out disease and does not remove the need to keep monitoring your health.
- It does not answer the question of whether a disease will develop — it works with information, not predictions.
AveGene offers several screening panels. Two are chosen most often. The Colorectal & Lung Cancer Screening Micro Panel provides focused coverage of 18 oncogenes associated with lung and colorectal malignancies. The Complex Genetic Cancer-Screening Test provides broad coverage of 55 oncogenes and more than 126 oncogenic parameters across multiple malignancies. Processing is identical for both; only the scope differs. Which one suits your situation is something we go through at the consultation.
You will receive specific instructions in advance when your appointment is confirmed. In most cases nothing demanding is involved — it is an ordinary venous blood draw.
A positive finding does not mean you have cancer. It is a molecular signal that may warrant targeted evaluation using established diagnostic methods. We will pass the finding on to you together with an explanation and a recommendation on who to discuss it with; any further steps are decided by a doctor. You will not be left on your own.
It means the analysis did not detect the genomic alterations it looks for. However, this does not rule out disease and does not remove the need to keep monitoring your health, to attend preventive check-ups and to take part in recommended screening programmes.
The price depends on the panel you choose. You will receive a specific quote at a no-obligation consultation, where we go through what makes sense in your situation. The consultation is free and comes with no commitment.
Next step
Start by asking.
A no-obligation consultation will help you find out whether the Horizon Prevent programme suits you and what you can expect from it.
